Common Shelduck
The Common Shelduck is popular in many wildfowl collections due to its stunning appearance and ease of keeping. The drake has a clear whistle, whereas the duck utters a hoarse quack. These shelducks tend to integrate better into a mixed collection than other species in this genus however they do not like confined spaces and are likely to quarrel without enough room. Common Shelducks will nest in ground nest boxes that mimic their natural nesting sites of burrows and holes. Usual clutch size is 8 - 12 eggs.
